Presentation: Kristoff is a man who generally hides how he really feels under a grumpy exterior. When we first meet him he’s quite curt and blunt, and doesn’t care much for Anna’s position of power over his as he’s quite quick to point how dumb he finds some of her decisions. He has a good head on his shoulders all the same, used to taking care of himself as he was orphaned at a young age and even when adopted by the trolls he remains quite independent, continuing to work as an ice cutter. But he’s quite clearly uncomfortable around people at times, and generally dislikes them as a whole, which is where much of his grumpiness comes from, a front to keep people from getting too close to him. This also stems from the fact he was orphaned at such a young age, and grew up quite distant from everyone else.

But like I said, he clearly has a good heart, though he’s loathe to admit it to himself. He uses his reindeer Sven as a sort of moral compass, giving the reindeer a voice and using it to chide him into making the right decision. For instance, Kristoff acts as if he is quite willing to let Anna go off on her own after she destroys his sled, and he tells himself off via Sven, telling himself that doing so will likely end with her dead. All the same he initially tries to act as if he’s only in it for the sled she owes him. But we later see he quickly grows to care about Anna, even if he does try to ignore it, half because he knows she’s engaged to another man and mostly because he doesn’t know what to do with those feelings. But he comes running as soon as he hears she’s in trouble with Elsa, and he shows clear concern when her hair starts to turn white from Elsa’s blast to her heart.

And it’s clear he cares deeply for her, despite their short time together, and the way she has caused a lot of property damage to him. He’s clearly upset with her being engaged when the trolls try and push them together, using it to try and shut them down and we see genuine hurt on his face when he says this. All the same he’s not the type to try and interfere, believing her to be in love with Hans to the point that he races back to the castle with her when they believe only Hans can give her the true love’s kiss she needs to be saved. And he walks away, clearly upset but wanting what’s best for her. He’s got a sense of honour, of sorts, in that he wouldn’t interfere with what Anna wants, even if it hurts him to do so. All the same, he loves her enough to come back, though that is more out of seeing the snowstorm that begins to form around the castle and Kristoff feeling concerned about her more than him wanting one last chance to confess.

Kristoff is a very multifaceted character, going from being a huge dork who sings songs to his reindeer and gives said reindeer a voice so they can “talk” to also having a overjoyed freak out over Elsa’s palace, stunned with the beauty of it all. Ice is his life, and he can be easily impressed with it, especially with what Elsa can create with it and he is genuinely happy over seeing the art of it all. But he can also be quite serious, especially when worried over people he cares for and their own safety and his grumpiness stems mostly from being quite awkward around strangers, unused to interactions with people.

Motivations: Kristoff is a person whose largely motivated by protecting others. At first he seems like a person who is mostly concerned with himself and what he gets out of things, but he shows quickly that’s not true. He cares deeply about Sven, treating him more like a brother than an animal, and he shows clear affection for the trolls who raised him, referring the the leader as “Grand Pabbie" and even during their song he’s not really mad at them, simply just embarrassed. But his main show of how protective and concerned for others he can be comes out quite quickly with Anna. He tries to come off as disinterested in her, more concerned about of the sudden winter will affect his business, but even from the very start he’s pointing out issues with her rash decision to get engaged to Hans. He also comes running as soon as he hears she’s in danger, and tries to keep her calm when they get kicked out. He rushes her to the trolls to try and get their help, and he then rushes her back to the castle when it’s needed. His first thought often seems to be of Anna, and he falls for her quite quickly, willing to put his own desires after what she needs with very little hesitation.

This is something that is going to continue into the Games, especially since they’re now in a relationship. Kristoff is going to do whatever he can to keep Anna safe and happy, and to that extent he’ll also be looking out for Anna. And as that might mean killing. Well he’s not going to overjoyed with that, and it’ll sit heavily on him, and he’ll try to find another way if possible. But he’ll also do it, if push comes to shove.

Setting: Kristoff won’t be happy at all with the games, but in the end his main concern is going to be Anna. He’s going to do whatever he can to keep her safe, and that protection will likely extend to Elsa. He won’t be enthusiastic about killing at all, and will probably try and avoid it but if it comes down to it and it’s needed to keep Anna safe he’ll do it. The fact people come back will help somewhat with that.

SAMPLES
First Person Thread: [It had all happened so quickly. There was another tribute, at least as big as he was, and it only took a second to tell that he wasn’t as opposed to the idea of killing as Kristoff was. And he was closer to Anna than him, and Kristoff had simply seen the knife and acted without thinking, throwing himself at him. The pain of the blade entering him had taken a moment to register, the other tribute struggling under him and somehow he had just known that this was what would kill him.

Still, he had held the other man down, as best he could, shouting at Anna to run, feeling ice cold at her look of terror. She hadn’t wanted to but she could hear the begging in his voice, and finally she had snapped out of it, turning on heel and bolting. Just in time too, Kristoff feeling weakness creep into his limbs, strength leaving him with his blood loss and he had fallen forward, passing out.

Waking up had been well. He had been told by others what would happen, but still it was a shock all the same. He felt as if he had only fallen asleep, eyes bleary as he blinked and awoke. And then it all slammed back in, air catching in his lung and he almost tore his shirt in the process of yanking it up to check. No scars, no new ones at least, and yet he knew what had happened.

The voice starts with a click, Kristoff flinching in surprise, still unused to all this new technology. Anger flared at their demands, and just as quickly it was tempered, Kristoff exhaling hard even as his hands stay in fists. A few minutes of waiting made it obvious that this was a requirement, and with another heavy sigh he grabbed the little device]

I died. What else do you want me to say? [A more frustrated sigh, Kristoff running a hand through his blonde hair] But I did what I had to. So what does it matter?

Is Anna ok? [He asks it suddenly, silent for a second as he waits, hopes for an answer. When none comes though, thats when his temper snaps, a burst of anger making him throw the device at the opposite wall before he buried his face in his hands, resigning himself to waiting]

Prose:A death arena.

The words rattle around in Kristoff’s mind even as he’s pushed into the room, two peacekeepers needed to move his dragging feet. He stands just by the door as it closes behind him, shock clear on his face and slowly he looks up to the box a group of people sit in, all of this slowly registering.

He pinches himself.

And he doesn't wake, which means this. This has to be real, a thought that still seems insane to him. He had just been in Arendelle, minutes, seconds ago, joking with Sven and going to meet Anna and suddenly he was here, tripping over clumsy feet as he was pushed into walking, being told crazy things.

A soft “What the hell” escapes him, and yet the people in the box offer no input, some staring at him with a bored look while others chat amongst themselves. They’re clearly waiting, and the other words ring back to him. Impress them, it’ll help you But why. This is all crazy talk, and what can he even do that might impress them.

Still he takes a step forward, and a second and walks into the centre of the room, still looking lost as he stares at all the weapons. He’s not a knight, not a soldier, he’s just an ice harvester and finally his gaze settles on some obviously heavy weights. Well. It’s something, and Kristoff steps forward. It’s not too hard for him to lift one of the heavier weights, though his muscles start to strain and he’s quick to move, turning and throwing it as far as he can. It hits a table sending weapons clattering and he hears murmurs behind him, too soft to make out even as he looks up.

The door opens with a hiss, the game makers apparently having seen enough and Kristoff looks to it with a start, the same white guards stepping forward to guide him back. And still at a loss for what to do he lets them lead him, too aware of the weapons they apparently carry and this.

This is insane.

What is your character scored: I’d score Kristoff as about an 8. He’s quite physically fit and strong, as he’s used to hauling around large chunks of ice for a living. He’s quite adaptable to situations, and used to looking out for himself due to spending most of his life with trolls and a reindeer. Personality wise he can be a bit standoffish at times, blunt and a bit gross but it’s pretty easy to tell he’s got a good heart, and his relationship with Anna will be another bonus for him as he’s quite clearly head over heels for her.
